Story Behind The Song
Music is a powerful thing. I've known many a player that simply never felt at home anywhere but on stage. Those men and their families sacrifice everything to the road. I had in mind one of those players when I wrote this song but it could apply to anything that drives a restless soul.

Lyrics
He had that same old smile
a crooked tooth on the left
stale smoke and cheap aftershave
Stood in the doorway with his hat in his hands
One stiff wind could blow him away
He said, ?Sprout grew into a strong, fine tree
But where?s the little girl who sat on my knee??
?Dust and redemption. As I live and I breathe
Dust and redemption. Get into damn near everything
But I, I come back here to let you know
I never really did let you go
But that dust and redemption
kept blowing me down that road?
He came in and he sat for awhile
He said, ?You?ve got my eyes and you?ve got her smile
I missed those school plays and I missed skinned knees
Hell, I missed nearly everything
But this, this here life I never could give you,
still a part of me will carry you through...all that
?Dust and redemption. As I live and I breathe
Dust and redemption. They get into damn near everything
Well I, I come back here to let you know
I never really did let you go
But that dust and redemption
kept blowing me down that road, don?t you know.?
He lit a cigarette with a trembling hand
and he turned to go
He said, ?You take care of your mama,
and you let her know
That this rolling stone, well you know he tried...
On second though, oh, never you mind.?
?Cause this dust and redemption. As I live and I breathe
Dust and redemption. They get into damn near everything
Well I, I come back here to let you know
I never really did let you go
But this dust and redemption
keeps blowing me down that long, lonesome road?
