Story Behind The Song
I was distressed by the terrorist attacks and moved by the incredible display of unity by Americans. There were so many emotions; fear, anger, sorrow, pride, and on top of that I was overcome by the fact that our country is showing more patriotism than has been seen in decades; we are waving our flags proudly and prominently.
I wrote this song to express all of these emotions and recognize the fact that in spite of the differences in opinion we have about what should be done, and how we should do it, we are still united in the love for our nation.
Song Description
Simple, but moving piano/vocal piece expressing the feelings of horror and outrage at the terrorist attacks. We have come to a place of unity, despite our differences.

Lyrics
Took So Much For Granted
We took so much for granted
Security, Prosperity, Freedom
Terror has come
and rained upon our lives
Made the fires burn
and blackened up the skies
And we wonder what it takes
to fill some people with such hate
They'd take so many lives...So many lives
An eye for an eye
can make the whole world blind
Yet in our hearts we ache
to see justice for this crime
And vow their deaths were not in vain
we'll stop the sorrow the senseless pain
From ashes we shall rise...against those who terrorize
Chorus We took so much for granted
And sometimes disagree
But flags are flyin’ everywhere
To show our Unity
From sea to shining sea
In the land of the free
We mourn the loss
of the people who are gone
Still we hope and pray
that right is made from wrong
Though for a time we live in fear
we raise our voices and we cheer
America...America
Chorus
Through the grief we found unity,
in the land of the free
