Defend Democracy to the end.
You stood by me when the others had gone.
You put your body 'tween me and the gun.
Why did you protect me as if I'm your son?
Though you must have wanted to, you did not run.

US soldier: you stood alone.
Never, ever was such bravery shown.
You came through Pearl Harbour with your spirit intact.
You defended your country - that's a certain fact!
Roosevelt and Trueman showed the way;
Patton's spirit inspired you well past D-Day.
With our Allies you fought for so many days;
You helped set the fires of Freedom ablaze.
US soldier: you helped me to see
The dawning of Freedom and Democracy.

We're brothers and sisters, we're a band.

Help me to Freedom's land.

US soldier: always prepared to give
Your life so that all our families may live.
So many down through the years
Cried tears of sadness and tried to hide their fears.
We all prayed hard that you would all survive.
We all gave thanks when we saw you were alive.
You were there for us: your people and your land.
We will always back you: I hope you understand.
US soldier: you will win.
US soldier fights for rights again.

US soldier: it's Christmas time.
Everybody thinks of you as the bells chime.
They should do anything for you.
People should treat you right and treat you true.
They should realise fates are entwined.
US soldier succeeds, Justice is no longer mined.
US soldier wins; Freedom, with relief, grins.
US soldier is not made of tin.
US soldier: you are welcome in my heart.
US soldier: I hope we never part.
