Running the Red Lights

Story Behind The Song

I was playing at an open stage in NYC, along with all the other young singer/songwriters and in walked this 80+ year old man with a guitar. We all turned to eachother as if to ask, what's he going to do? And then he got on stage and blew us all away. Turns out it's never too late to be a guitar god.

Song Description

A steady, grooving midtempo rocker with skittery steel guitar accents that says no matter where you are in life, you can turn yourself around - not letting anyone tell you no, and running every red light.

Lyrics

Old man
strumming his guitar
trying to find the time to some
old song
Now the words are lost
and the chords are wrong and some
young man?s
getting smart with him
saying time?s a wasting but
new songs
are all waste compared
to the songs of yesterday

He says I swear that
My hair went white
What with the
Shock of it all
Not living this life right
I'm gonna need a takeback
I've been stepping on the line
My mother's back'll break but
I feel like I'm going slow
Like I'm giving up the ghost
But I'm giving it a go
And I'm running the red lights

Hey man
Where'd the road go today
Hey weren't you watching
Stay still
Take a good look around
you'll find yourself botching
It all
Feels like a dream I had once
Where I was fucking up
All my
Final exams and bam
I screwed up the dreams I had

He says I once was
One who won
Now I find
I'm losing my time

Not living this life right
I'm gonna need a takeback
I've been stepping on the line
My mother's back'll break but
I feel like I'm going slow
Like I'm giving up the ghost
But I'm giving it a go
And I'm running the red lights

These things always change for the better
Stick to the letter
Pray for whatever remains
These things always take us forever
Now or it's never
Let's get down to the bottom of this

I'm not living this life right
I'm running the red lights

Not living this life right
I'm gonna need a takeback
I've been stepping on the line
My mother's back'll break but
I feel like I'm going slow
Like I'm giving up the ghost
But I'm giving it a go
And I'm running the red lights
