Story Behind The Song
At least 80% of this came out fairly easily. I wrote the lyrics out quickly sitting at a lunch counter. I've tweaked it a bit since then, but most of it is from the first draft.
Song Description
It's a break-up song. The singer sees the end is here, while the other partner might be tryign to hold on a bit longer.

Lyrics
Don?t lower your eyes.
That only makes this seem a lie.
Be brave and cut the cancer away.
You?re still wearing that ring.
I guess you can get used to anything.
Some days you?re better off walking away
from broken doors, slamming words
the guilty hearts we?ve hurt
The hardest part is saying that prayer.
The hardest part?s watching it die.
The hardest part is saying, ?Never?.
The hardest part is saying, ?This is not my life.?
I stand at the door
that I won?t pass through anymore
to the home that I?ll no longer know.
This may be a mistake.
I?ll take that chance before you
break my will.
My spirit won?t sit still
for wicked fantasy, your insecurity?
you don?t trust me.
The hardest part is saying that prayer.
The hardest part?s watching it die.
The hardest part is saying, ?Never?.
The hardest part is saying, ?This is not my life.?
Not another time around.
I know it?s hard but we?ve run it right down.
We?re crying over something that?s hearts stopped beating.
Just this once can?t you admit defeat
and please, please lower your eyes.
I?ll only find a way to
lie to myself.
I love you more than my own health.
The hardest part is saying that prayer.
The hardest part?s watching it die.
The hardest part is saying, ?Never?.
The hardest part?s watching it die.
The hardest part is saying that prayer.
The hardest part?s watching it die.
The hardest part is saying, ?Never?.
The hardest part?s watching it die.
The hardest part?s watching it die.
The hardest part?s watching it die.
