Life On A Dirt Road

Story Behind The Song

I have travelled all of my life working away from home. Although never a soldier my experiences working overseas in sometimes dangerous places started the feelings I had reading and watching events on the current conflicts around the world. ?. We are working closely with the Royal British Legion in the UK and the Fisher House Foundation, USO, Operation Homefront and the National Family Association in the United Stated to give back some of the proceeds from the album sales and a percentage of the sponsorship money to help some or all of these charities who care for those affected by the wars overseas. We are also working with both the UK and US military to arrange concerts at military establishment all over the world.

Song Description

Life On A Dirt Road tells the moving tail of an un-named soldier in an un-disclosed desert, who dreams of life, land and his home. The lyrics ?and I swore I wouldn?t change, through it all I?d stay the same, and I?d come home to be your man but it?s not the same any more? ring true with so many, not only soldiers, sailors and airmen who have lived through this feeling, but also the families of those effected.

Lyrics

A hundred days of fightin
Nothing to show for gains just shattered lives
Men of all creed and colour
Sitting in the sand crying for their wives

And I swore I wouldn?t change
Through it all I?d stay the same
I?d come home to be your man
But it?s not the same any more

[Chorus]

And I write my name right here in the sand
And dream of home my life and my land
And I tell you I would sell my soul
Please don?t leave me here
To leave my life on a dirt road

[Verse 2]

Lying in the starlight
The dessert feels so cold when you?re alone
Ohhhh but when its over
I?ll be in your arms when I?m back home

And I swore I wouldn?t change
Through it all I?d stay the same
I?d come home to be your man
But it?s not the same any more

[Chorus]

And I write my name right here in the sand
And dream of home my life and my land
And I tell you I would sell my soul
Please don?t leave me here
To leave my life on a dirt road

[Instrumental]

Please don?t leave me here
Please don?t leave me here

[Chorus KEY CHANGE]

And I write my name right here in the sand
And dream of home my life and my land
And I tell you I would sell my soul
Please don?t leave me here
To leave my life (PAUSE) on a dirt road
