Story Behind The Song
Everyone has felt trapped at one time or another. This song is about some of the things that can trap us. Sometimes, the traps are bad enough that we have to cross our fingers and strike out into the unknown. This song is mostly about my urge to strike out and make a career of music, despite the other track my life seems to have laid.
Song Description
In Eternity, the hero is a desperate young man, aching to leave his dull, pre-planned life and search for more meaning. His girlfriend, his job, and his hometown are all predictable and unfulfilling. The central conflict of the song is between the hero and his girlfriend. He tells her he must leave, and he says he'd "rather not go alone," but she simply won't uproot herself. She watches him leave, saying that he won't make it alone. But he feels otherwise, and the song ends with him striking out on his own.

Lyrics
Eternity
All Lyrics © Frederick Richard Yarger
Verse 1:
He looks at the clock on the wall
But it?s only three
He?s had this job for a year
But it feels like eternity
He goes home to his girlfriend
She?s got dinner done
She kisses him quietly
His heart sinks like the setting sun
Chorus:
He says,
?I?m not afraid of failing,
?I?m not afraid of being free,
?I?m not afraid of fear,
?I?m afraid of eternity?
Verse 2:
She can?t see what he?s seeing
She?s near sighted
She?s had the same plans
Her whole life
But he tells her he?s going
She can come or never leave
He?d rather not go alone
But he can?t ignore what he?s seen
Bridge:
She says, ?you?ll get stuck out there, and you?ll fail.
No one?s gonna hold your hand like I will.?
He just smiles and presses the gas
And as he pulls away he doesn?t look back.
