Home ( A Soldiers Song)

Story Behind The Song

I have always been inspired by our soldiers and their sacifice. I wanted to write a song about the journey. I first got the idea from what we call the "Yellow mile". When our soldiers come home there is a street that is adorned with yellow ribbons. Fire trucks and police cars line the intersections and people line the sides of the roads. As busses of soldiers come through town on their way home to the base it's a tribute and a welcom home. This inspired me to write a song about the journey away and Home.

Song Description

Story starts desribing the soldiers journey away from home. He's doing his job but he's scared and misses home. The first chorus is a prayer. If this fight takes me, will you take me home. The second verse is his journey home. Seeing his home town and his girl again. This is the long overdue reunion of the couple. When we get home will you lay down beside me. The bridge talks about the soldiers emotions and how his journey really never leaves him but he knows he's safe now. The last chorus is about being home in your own house with your loved one at last. Safe.

Lyrics

Home (A Soldiers Song)

I had to go
When I got the call
It's not because I wanted to be gone

When I think of your smile
I miss you more each day
Every second I'm reminded your so far away

Tonight I'm down on my knees
I'm praying Lord "If this fight should take me"

When I get home
Will you lay down beside me
Safe in your arms can I stay for a while
It's been so long
Since I haven't felt helpless
and I know with you
My worries are gone
When I get home

It's been too long
Coming back to you
I can't finally see our home town coming into view
It takes all I have
To just hold back the tears
Seeing you I can't believe I'm really here

Holding you I feel whole again
I can't belive that you're right here with me

When I get home
Will you lay down beside me
Safe in your arms can I stay for a while
It's been so long
Since I haven't felt helpless
and I know with you
My worries are gone
When I get home

Tonight I dreamt I was beneath those foreign skies
Then I awoke into the quiet of this night

Now that I'm home
and you're right here beside me
Safe in your arms
Please stay for a while
It's been too long
Since I haven't felt helpless
and I know with you
My worries are gone
