Story Behind The Song
"The Lotus Eaters" takes its title from a work by Homer, based on his charaters of the same name that lulled sailors into a blissful unawareness that eventually enslaved them in a life without purpose or direction by eating lotus blossoms. The characters in this song do the same, but with booze and drugs and self-centeredness. Dave wrote this in retrospect of his years living in a small town, hanging out in a band and generally not accomplishing much. Times have changed, as the rest of the album illustrates.
Song Description
"The Bosom and The Pool" is a concept album by Dave Christensen. In this chapter, the narrator has hooked up with a group of people that just have fun all the time. No responsibilities. No schedule. The choice of New Orleans-styled music adds to the effect that the party is never ending.

Lyrics
THE LOTUS EATERS
They?re Curious, ask a lot of questions
about sex, pop-up campers and introspection
They dance like a horn player blows jazz
Closes their eyes, lets their limbs go
They never look behind them never need to obey
they dance all night and into the daylight
savings time, their miked, psyched, air-tight, all right
Drinkin?, dancin?, smokin?, laughin?
They like a lot of things, but they don?t know jack.
They?re spiritual, but not too religious
On road trips they blow big bubblelicious
with luscious lips come stories of trips
when they walk their hips make a flip by
Try stealin? kisses in the midnight
down the slope of a shoulder, the curve of a thigh
the nape of an ankle to the iris of an eye
Up down all around thinkin? about the blue sky
They?re sly when they crack a joke
or the way they?ll get you to bum a smoke
even though they?ve quit that?s it man, they?re curious
They?re curious the way their anger slides to a smile
The way they wrestle between the Taoist the Catholic
The style of being free in a world of chains
Pickin? old locks and walking with canes
A secret enigma wrapped in a mystery
whoa boy, what a fun place to be
To figure it out would take a year and a life
So let?s get right down and butter the knife
They?re curious
