Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song at a certain period in my life when it seemed that I really had to choose a direction but lacked confidence in either decision. I wrote this song trying to catch the moment.
Song Description
This song blends elements of folk, pop, and folk-punk to create a very catchy song about the feeling of being stuck in a place and time with no direction. I really like the song because it still blends lyrical imagery borrowed from blues, like hitching rides at the crossroads and conferring with Papa Legba, a voodoo god.

Lyrics
I smell the rain when it's comin
And that smell is a comin
Stronger than ever before
And everyone is busy goin nowhere
So busy goin nowhere
But right now this city snores
And the broken glass crunches underneath my shoes on the cold concrete
What am I doing here?
While a people sleep my heart still beats but my soul feels like it's sinkin deep
Release me from this fear
Why do I feel so alone?
In a place with a friendly face
Throw me in a place of the unknown
Maybe there I'll find a safe space
But I can't leave this place
Papa let me speak
Legba, why won't you let me speak?
I need to know my route
And I'm standin here at the crossroads
Yes, here at the crossroads
With a thumb stickin out
And I wait for something that you might bring to convince me that I'm worthy
Worthy to walk this road
Cause I know that if I must walk this street that there is no way to retreat
And I'm truly goin back home
