My Food

Story Behind The Song

Read chapter for of the Gospel of John in the Bible and you'll find the back drop for the song. I wanted to challenge myself and others to look at what motivated them and what fueled their passion. The proposal is that Christians should adopt the same passion and motivation as Christ.

Song Description

Adopting Jesus' motivation for living; doing God's will by serving other people.

My Food
Words and Music by Daniel Nowowiejski

Verse 1
About that time of day again;
I turn the shop lights off and head out for the street.
It’s been a long hard day at work, and boy I’m tired,
I can’t wait to get home and get a bite to eat.
Driving down the interstate, no not much on my mind;
except a big juicy steak and pleasant thoughts about my wife. What’s this coming up on me, just off to my side?
I see an old truck, smoke pouring out the hood,
an old man trying to get a ride.

Pre-chorus
Do I stop or do I go? My hunger pains, they tell me go, but there’s a voice rising up on the other side. In my mind, I recall the One who died for all and the time he took with the woman at the well in Samaria, and he said. . .

Chorus
My food is to do the will of the One who sent me. Everything he wants me to do, yeah I’ll do. It might seem like I’m running low, on empty, but I’ve found my fill serving you. My food is your will.

Verse 2
About that time of day again; I put my suit coat on and head off for the church. It’s been a long hard week at work, and boy I’m tired, I stayed up late last night so I could feed the sheep.
After the service I go out to the parlor.
I shake the hand of everyone I see. What’s this standing over there just off to my side? I see a young man, dressed like the down and out, with a desperate look in his eye.

Pre-chorus 2
Do I stop or do I go? My body tells me go, but there’s a voice rising up on the other side. In my mind I recall the One who died for all and the time he took with the woman at the well in Samaria, and he said. . .

Bridge
Where I come from we like to feast. Yeah, where I come from the serving platter’s center piece. And I’m not one for turning down a meal, but I’m I just playing games or is my faith for real?

Ending Line
About that time of day again; I turn the shop lights off and head out for the street.
