Story Behind The Song
I wrote Dancing On 17th on a night early on in a relationship on a night where, when I pulled into her driveway, I really really didn't want to drop her off. I wanted to go do crazy romantic things like run around town and drive to Alaska to see the northern lights, and park somewhere and just hang out for a longer time. So I had this idea on my way home when I saw all the city lights (she lives on a hill so I could see them plain as day) that made me really happy. Like what if we could just dance the night away until morning came and even the street lights went out. And that's also why, rhythmically, it has a 6/8 dance feel. I'm a romantic cheese-ball.

Lyrics
I close the door
And I pull away
Into the streetlight
You have your back to the wall
We both take the fall
From our own little world
Let's go dancing on 17th
And I'll hold you close to me
As I twirl you around
Take a look over town
And watch all the lights go out
I feel so small
Under your eyes and the stars
All watching me, watching me
Your head's on my chest
Our rhythm's not the best
But I never wanna leave
Let's go dancing on 17th
And I'll hold you close to me
As I twirl you around
Take a look over town
And watch all the lights go out
I was alone
Till I spent my nights
With you and the phone
Well I know some days you can't call
But I want your voice all day long
This is all your fault
Let's go dancing on 17th
And I'll hold you close to me
As I twirl you around
Take a look over town
And watch all the lights go out
