Story Behind The Song

Right before the dot-com debacle, I had 7million dollars out in deals and was on the verge of taking the small business I worked for from small to not-so-small. At the same time I was being courted by a high tech company looking for a hot-shot marketing person who was willing to take shares as salary. The next thing I knew I was smashed up on the 110 freeway and had become a SIG alert. In the next few weeks the dot-com market imploded and most of my deals disintegrated with the marketplace. This song is what came out of these circumstances.

Verse 1
I don’t know your plan, but you can count me in.
I’ve been blind thinkin’ I know the right way.
Only you can see what lies in front of me,
And what’s behind me over time and time again

Verse 2
The stones roll by markin’ distance over time
To quantify all those weary miles behind me.
Lord, don’t let me rest, see me through my quest
To find the sweet light on the morningside of night.

Chorus

Lead me down that long and lonesome highway,
I’ll be quiet and let your song be heard
I’m so tired of tryin’ to do things my way,
But I’ll leave it all behind for the clarity of mind
I’ll be receiving when I listen to your word.

Verse 3
There’s a point beyond I cannot seem to reach,
In spite of all my grand technology.
So I spin my wheels and make my deals
And pray the fast lane doesn’t get the best of me.

Chorus 2
Lead me down that long and lonesome highway,
I’ll be quiet and let your song be heard
Sing to me, sing to me…
And a breathless angel whispers in the kindest voice I know,
Sings to me, Ah, sings to me
Of healing confirmation, restoration for my soul!

Chorus Tag
So I hold on tight and drive into the wind
I’m by myself, but never all alone.
I don’t know your plan, but you can count me in!
