Sari Club

Story Behind The Song

This song is in reaction to what happened at the Sari Club (Bali) when it was blown up. For most of my high school life, my friends and I would go there for vacation during the winter and spring, and it was where a lot of our memories were. Of course, we were pretty naive to what was going on sociopolitically, and only when things became bad did we really stop and think about the situation. Especially for all of us Americans there, the mentality was to not care and spend as much money as our parents gave us. Whether it was bungee jumping, drinking way too much, or going to the local police-owned bar to get magic mushrooms, it was all about us and not about what was going on in the community. For a lot of us growing up at JIS (Jakarta International School), we thought that Bali was the one place where things couldn't happen even though tensions, hositilities and unrest were becoming more extreme every where else in Indonesia. We were proven wrong that day the bombs exploded in the Sari Club, taking many young lives and injuring many others.

Lyrics

Sari Club

Sun's at six, rolling higher
we were laughing at Lucy in the sky
Board my body at Tubes we'd relax there
Until the afternoon went by

Then I said ?please, another little tease,
a little nasi goreng and then serve me three of these"
strolling down the gangs let the clouds go by
pocket camera's rolling as I walk the sky

Looking at the stars, wondering where you'll be
in a few days you'll be gone from here
but it doesn't matter 'cause the jam jars say
everything is fine, and it's all OK

Countdown to the world vibe
Islands all around are spreading economic lies
Will it come around? we dont seem to care
'Cause I dance with no thoughts of what's happening here

I smell the scent of a new revolution, the empire is slipping away
I smell the stench of a dead constitution, what new source of powers awake

Please dont be sad- I know it's wrong and so bad
It's a special place that I adore, yet it hurts to see it more and more
I dont want to shut that door...

I smell the scent of a new revolution, the empire is slipping away
I smell the stench of a dead constitution, what new source of powers awake
