Minnesota Got Colder

Story Behind The Song

2009 was a rough year. I think I went to more funerals in that one year than in the past ten combined. One thing that really hit me was how hard it is to find something to say to people who are mourning the person they just lost. I never knew what to say, so I just repeated same the old adage, "Sorry for your loss." But those words seemed very incomplete and hollow. I wanted to write a song that said what I couldn't put into words. This song is about remembering those you have lost and celebrating their memory. When you lose someone, remember-- they're only a memory away!

Lyrics

Take another step toward the light
We are gathered here to celebrate your life
Endless rows of flowers represent the life you gave
From the lives you touched in oh so many ways

I can't believe you're gone

Minnesota got cold colder today
But all the tears I cry they won't wash away
Smiles we shared and mountains that we moved
these memories keep me walking with you.... and it keeps you alive

Pictures cast the sunlight to warm this cold and empty space
they record your beaming face on your happiest days
You made your difference you showed me what it means to be alive
Hugging every moment before they walk on by

I can't believe you're gone

Minnesota got cold colder today
but all the tears I cry they won't wash away
smiles we shared and mountains that we moved
these memories keep me walking with you.... and it keeps you alive

Ya

if you were right now i know what you would say
life is for the living, don't cry over me
we'll meet again sometime and we'll laugh it all away
But for now, I'm in better place. a better place

Minnesota got cold colder today
but all the tears I cry they won't wash away
smiles we shared and mountains that we moved
these memories keep me walking with you.... and it keeps you alive
