Story Behind The Song

I read this passage of Scripture in college. The words were so profound to me, they remained in my thoughts all day. That night, I went for a run around campus. It was cold. I could see my breath. As my feet pounded on the ground, I heard the words of this song reverberating in my head. Music began to take shape around those words, beginning with "your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus."

Song Description

The text of Philippians 2 provides admonishment to the listener to bear an attitude the same as that of Christ Jesus, and it continues to describe this attitude, and how we should handle ourselves in dealings with others.

Vs 1: If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ
If any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit
If any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete

Ch: Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider
Equality with God something to be grasped
But made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant

He humbled Himself and became obedient to death
Even death on a cross
Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place
And gave Him the name that is above every name
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow

Vs 2: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit
But in humility, consider others better than yourselves
Each of you should look not only to your own interests
But also to the interests of others
