North or Southbound?

Story Behind The Song

I was living in San Diego and visiting Los Angeles (my family) many times last year. One of the times I came back to visit, I brought an old microwave that belonged to my ex-girlfriend. When I went to her Mother's house to return it (my ex no longer lived there), I was informed that my ex-girlfriend was about to graduate from college and that they were going to have all kinds of family flown in from around the country, and this, and that. And I was very happy for her and her folks to have such an occasion to celebrate, believe me. What happened next, was that I started having all kinds of different perspectives regarding my place in life, and how come I haven't graduated college yet (my ex-girlfriend was about a year and a half younger than me), I quickly realized that I would make it there too...I was only a few steps behind. And that she was the prize of her family, so I wrote, "You are the fruit that blossoms so ripe...as I mature into vine". I thought the whole fruit analogy was pretty cool.

Song Description

The structure of this song is a little unorthodox: it has two sets of pre-choruses that also change...and it also has a bridge that changes into another type of guitar riff. The overall feel however, is still very effective and in fact, it is one of our fan's favorites.

Lyrics

The way things between us took place, I swear I've no regrets.
Granted mistakes were made but in our youth what did we expect?
-resulting from different perspectives, non-similar objectives.
That drive through Topanga Canyon is of the best times I remember.
Early Morning Ocean Glaring, spontaneously watching a rising sun.

-Oh as people with emotions it is difficult, to push those wants aside then anesthetize the hurt.
-It's imperative we enjoy the moment's worth, and keep on keepin' on...

You'd make a shot into the basket that hung from your bedroom door, I bet you still have never laughed so hard
But in those days we'd find a way to start another war.
-resulting from different perspectives, non-similar objectives.
Well the second passes the moment's over,
In a minute what will you find?
Just look forward to every hour, because everyday you seem to cross my mind.
-Oh as people with emotions it is difficult. To push those wants aside then anesthetize the hurt.
-It's imperative to enjoy every moment's worth, and keep on keepin' on...

So I might not know where I'm headed whether North or Southbound?
You're setting examples of success, making me so proud.
Applause that's so loud, a million pairs of hands but only one I'm missing.
The pair that held me up so high despite my youthful spinning.

So positive that I will get there too, I'm just a few steps behind.
You are the fruit that blossoms so ripe, as I mature into vine.
