Harley's In Heaven

Story Behind The Song

Set in a biker bar, a conversation takes place between a patron and an old biker "with a weight on his mind". The subject of life after death comes up, to which the old biker responds, "As long as my Harley's in Heaven, I'll be glad to go" (the hook). In the 2nd verse, we learn that "Harley" was the old biker's son, and he was buried that day, having sacrificed his life in military service. So the "hook" of the song now takes on an unexpected and powerful meaning.

Lyrics

Verse:
I dusted off the road; took a place at the bar, and called up a tall glass of beer.
Found beside me an old biker, with a weight on his mind. I offered to lend him an ear.

We talked about livin' and lovin' and dyin', I asked him 'bout life after death.
I was surprise he looked to the heavens and smiled. Tremblin' as he said:

Chorus
As long as my Harley's in Heaven, I won't mind to go.
A long winding road through God's mountains. The bikes making thunder roll.
There'll be angels riding beside me. Destination? Man, I don't know.
As long as my Harley's in Heaven, I'll be glad to go.

Verse:
My boy, Harley, was a soldier. Gave his life to this land. Today we laid him to rest.
They all told me of a hero. But I just miss my boy. Faith is put to the test.

I'll remember those days in the country, our bikes rumbling side by side.
But when my time on earth comes to an end, I'll know Harley's along for the ride.

Chorus
('cause) As long as my Harley's in Heaven, I won't mind to go.
A long winding road through God's mountains. The bikes making thunder roll.
There'll be angels riding beside me. Destination? Lord, I don't know.
As long as my Harley's in Heaven, I'll be glad to go.

Instrumental....

... There'll be angels riding on beside me. Destination? God only knows.
As long as my Harley's in Heaven, I'll be glad to go.

...As long as my Harley's in Heaven, I'll be glad to go.

...As long as my Harley's in Heaven, I'll be glad to go.
