Song Description

When most people are asked what they envision when they hear the word "apocalypse", they will say they see a scorched-earth landscape of death and total destruction. In many ways they are totally correct. But, I think there are levels of apocalypses that happen to a lesser degree in our daily lives. When I look around me, I see these apocalypses happen from anger, ignorance, misconception, people being used and misled, the loss or lack of love in people's lives, the loss of spiritual beliefs and having a conscience of how our actions and thoughts effect everything around us, the lack of insight created by a sense of wonder and awe and, finally, the dedication to fight through our fears and the barriers that stand in our way as we try to help people and reach our true potential. I know, that is "a mouthful". But, you hopefully get the idea. I spent some time recently in Detroit. This song was inspired by that trip. It is a travesty what has happened to that once beautiful city that was so vibrant, welcoming and inspiring. The title says it all. We are spiraling out of control....and heading toward....? With all the events of the world spinning faster and faster out of control....this song paints a potential picture of the future.

1. Bombed out buildings and bombed out souls
The last crescendo of our lose of control
The highways are empty but they're filled with danger
We tried to fool the 7 deadly sins
Then came the mushroom cloud and its penetrating poison
We were unbendable
And way too proud
Until we heard a voice
That cut right through the clouds, saying ....

CHORUS
Welcome to the abyss
Say goodbye to all the bliss
Here's a little kiss on the lips
From the Apocalypse

2. The silos are empty and they're covered in dust
The deafening residue of our blessings gone bust
We flushed our futures when we shunned our faith
Endless chatter reaching up to the sky
Be God's not taking any calls because the grid is fried
A mist of tears
Oh, it hovers all around
Dampening the silence
Till the lightening strikes the ground, saying........

CHORUS

BRIDGE
Where are all the dreams?
Where are all the second chances?
Bring back all the machines
And turn on all the pretty dancers, pretty dancers

CHORUS

Wow, what a hard song to review because of the complexity of imagery, music, and lyrics all contained in a 90's type of grunge influences. I have to say first of all that the instrumentals were impeccable and carries the listener onto the next set of lyrics, which promise a dark view of reality. This song is long and deep which is why I reference 90's grunge. But it has a distinctive cleanliness to it which is all about the message. You have to get into this song as a whole to get that. The technical musicianship seemed to be played with ease which was very noticeable on the guitar slides.

I like the concept of the song, it has loads of potential. Gives a strong message about a place people don't want to go to.
Ultimately we have two choices, walk with Christ or Welcome to the Abyss... at least that is how I interpreted your song?

a very dark themed moody rock track very lyrical and dark
i liked the style

Outstanding production and recording. Great performances and a very professional sound. Great message delivered with sincerity and compassion. Beautiful bridge. Very nice vocal track and brilliantly master acoustic guitar playing and recording. Song showcases one of Broadjam's premier song writer. Nicely done, the melody is still with me.
