I Hurt Too Much To Squeeze (#1 Blues-Rock)

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this song back in 1965 for my Chicago band, "The Chosen Few" to perform at our shows. It was an instant hit. The one studio version of this song was lost over time, so through the prodding of some old fans of the song, I re-recorded it. Sounds pretty good and sure was a lot of fun to produce.

Verse 1.
You headed to your night classes
To work on a college degree
But, I know the secrets
You've been trying to keep from me
I wonder how you get your grades
How you get your stars
When you're out taking courses
In the discotheques and bars
So, I gotta say ....
Chorus
Go, go, go and baby, stay away
I hurt too much to squeeze
Go, go, go and, baby, stay away
I hurt too much to squeeze
(BACK VOCAL: I hurt too much, I hurt too much baby, baby, baby, yeah, I hurt too much)

Verse 2.
You're a sweet little bee, baby
A bubbling bowl of honey
You got a hairpin stinger
And a hair trigger love
But, you go through men
Just like a pack of cigarettes
Yeah, ya smokes 'em up
While you're increasing their debts
So, I gotta say ......
Repeat Chorus
Go, go, go and baby, stay away
I hurt too much to squeeze
Go, go, go and, baby, stay away
I hurt too much to squeeze
(BACK VOCAL: I hurt too much, I hurt too much baby, baby, baby, yeah, I hurt too much)

BRIDGE
I'm feeling like boogie putt
Always a step behind
You had me reaching for the money
I've been hiding in my hatband
Now, what goes into a free hot dog?
What's floating in a free beer?
I had to find out the hard way
When after just one night you were calling you dear
So,.....
Repeat Chorus
Go, go, go and baby, stay away
I hurt too much to squeeze
Go, go, go and, baby, stay away
I hurt too much to squeeze
(BACK VOCAL: I hurt too much, I hurt too much baby, baby, baby, yeah, I hurt too much)

Solid effort! Like the idea of being "too hurt to squeeze".

There's a lot to like with this song. Sounds like it was fun to put together, well done.

I dig some down & dirty Blues with a naughty feel. Cool hook & chorus that makes keeps rocking while I sing along. Fun vocal presentation that gives a live feel. Good instrumentation that suits the song. Like the keyboard!

Great sounding mix. The instrumentation is really well separated. Not sure if all the instruments are real but they certainly sound real.

Very great quality love the lyrics

Very cool and dirty guitar tones. Love the backing vocals on the chorus.

good basic blues, has me listeneing to hear whats next

good lyrics nice guitar parts

Great song. It has a great hook.

I really liked the way the two rythm guitars played off of each other. Lead voice is great for this song. Great hook, even if a little over repeated (its catchy enough that the listener can fill in the lyrics with just the instrumental line). Very clean recording quality. The instrumental to vocal mix was right on.

Adult education indeed ... exactly what are those little girls doing out all night, oh babe, you are killing me ... sweet little guitar solo about 2 minutes, very much the ZZ Top offspring. Real bas s vocals, when's the last time I heard that. Cool riff and hook.

I like the way the song starts out - cool sounding lead vocals. I really like the lead guitar as well.

Perfect vocals, classic rock done right, reminded me of many grateful dead, doors, altman brothers Very nice professional quality.

Great bit of blues. Good hook-chorus. Super guitar playing. Love it.

I love it. Nice tempo. Great feel. Great vocals. Nice harmonies. Sweet guitar work.

Great rootsy blues-rock tune! Love those guys doo-woppin' in the background. Do I hear a little Billy Gibbons influence here? Can't beat an influence like that. Reminds me of ZZ's early stuff (before they got tangled up with electronics).

nice song as well as instrumentation a lead vocals

Nice effort.Cool song.

YEAH--a good old blues song--I DIG IT!---love blues tunes!--great one to do LIVE!--thanxs--joe
