Gods of our own fate

Story Behind The Song

I was approached to write a song for an independant movie filmed around my city. After a brief explanation of the story, I sat at my piano and wrote a fictional story that was parallel to what the actual story of the film was about. The end result was "Gods of our own fate". In the beginning of my story, there's someone looking to leave town, and as he's leaving town, he recalls his life back from where he came from. What he's leaving behind. And as the song reaches the bridge, you find out with a little bit of imagination, why he's leaving.

Lyrics

Gods Of Our Own Fate

There's a lost soul along the highway
Thumbing for a ride no destination in mind
He doesn't care as long as he gets somewhere
Far away from here

It's getting late it's getting colder
He has got his thoughts to keep him warm
Thinking of the life back home
How us brothers used to live
How we drew blood and made a promise
We were born to be
Gods of our own fate

Chorus
The only rule we knew
Was breaking all the rules
Never hesitate to be
Gods of our own fate
Get what we want we'd make our mark
In the history books
Where they can take a look
Brothers we'll be
Gods of our own fate

I remember how we used to stay out late at night
Howling at the moon having wild times
Had our share of women
Whiskey wine and bar room fights
We were born to be
Gods of our own fate

Wherever he's going
This'll stay with him even in his sleep
The fatal night the neon sign flashing closed lit the street
The gun went off we took off
But through it all
One was left behind

Chorus
