Rain

Story Behind The Song

This song took in the range of five months to write and record, with the long verse serving as the meat of the track and the final singing outro bringing the topics to a sorrowful, heavy conclusion. Each adds its own unique flavor to the track as a whole.

Song Description

The title track from Chad Michael's first official EP, 'Rain' is a rolling commentary on the state of society and the progress (or lack thereof) being made by younger generations. Lyrics

Rain

[Intro]

This is not the beginning,
But a continuation,
Run it,

[Verse]

We always searching for words,
Tryna explain life,
The future isn't far,
It's right now hidden in plain sight,
Stain white,
From the bleach she put in her hair last night,
In her bathroom,
on the towel,
In the pic she sent to my phone last night,
I'm killin' impressions,
Bury those and read 'em their last rights,
Didn't believe it myself so I used inception in real life
And planted a seed in my head,
In the Garden of Eden,
With a vision of Eve and some snakes in the trees
to make me believe that I need 'em,
That the grass is always greener on the other side of perfection, even,
Even if I find it almost guarantee that I end up leaving,
I need it, the push and pull,
Pick-and-roll, yeah,
One more time and girl I'm gone, give-and-go,
This is Michael in '91 with the switch up,
I was only four months old, ask my mama,
Probably had the hickups,
Twenty-four years later and people dyin' in stickups,
Just to get they kicks up,
But half of these cats rockin' J's have never played pickup,
That's just facts, man,
Everyone wanna ball,
Fame is now officially the only thing we want at all, damn,
But what if I use what I make to build a bigger wall,
Climb my way to the head just so I can cut it off,
Find a way to the switch I my mind and shut it off,
I know the problem with success gon' be how much it really costs,
Analysis, culture stuck in paralysis,
A generation that's talented lacking the will to deal with challenges,
Searching for balance when everything gotta change.
We either looking the wrong direction or we looking the other way,
It's twisted logic, ain't it,
Just to be heard you gotta pay,
A twisted lottery,
You never win if you never play
The games that been made in relation to status and the state of relations,
I pray I gain the patience and pray I'm never complacent,
I pray I'm doin' positive with the life I'm creating,
Praying to God in a congregation devoted to Satan,
I pray I light the city up like the 60s in Vegas,
Grow some palms in the desert,
Call that shit the oasis,
Somethin' side of the mountain,
Lotta windows and spacious,
Cuz if they want me to stunt on a regular basis,
I'll do it, to prove a point and maybe nothing else,
You think I put myself in these situations to help my health?
Heart that wants to give,
Swear I wanna share the wealth,
But I hate that I can't give a fuck 'bout no one but my fucking self,
No other way to say it you know it,
I just can't get involved,
You tell me you ain't trippin',
I listen and then I watch you fall,
I've let 'em in before and always had the same result,
But I'd be lying if I told you none of that was my fault,
I admit it,
Step one of being committed,
I should write about me in the paper,
I'm my biggest critic, uh,
Acidic, analytical,
Metaphoric and literal,
Precisely on the cusp but raw in general,
Priceless, hardest mineral but flawed,
A chip off the Hope Diamond,
I feel like there's two of me,
I'm only cool if they cosigning,
CM

[Bridge - Outro]

It's comin' down in the streets outside,
I'll be touchin' down in a little while,
I know it always feels like forever,
And I know it's been a while,
I know it's been a while,
You know its been a,

It's nights like this I,
Get so anxious,
And we don't even talk no, more,
So it's none of my business,

But who you got that's down to ride these days,
Who you fuckin' on the side these days,
And why you tryna hide behind those shades,
I bet you never look inside these days,
You probably never look inside, no,
You probably never look inside, no,

[Outro]
