Lyrics

Soldier's Song
(c) Carol Ann Jones 2010

He can't seem to muster a smile
Hasn't worn colors in a long, long while
Tries to blend in with the landscape that surrounds him
Left with his troop last December
One last kiss that he'll always remember
Flew over the pond to the desert beyond

Chorus:
When it rains it pours
From the driest desert to the eastern shore
But its nothing the sun hasn't seen before
No its nothing the sun hasn't seen before

He only sleeps in three hour blocks
With one eye open and his face to the clock
Nerves on edge, left foot on the floor
He dreams of his bride every single day
The babies have grown since he went away
Just need to stay strong, it won't be much longer

Chorus

A truck came in, the cab blown to shreds
His job was to cut off the half-ton bed
His welding mask hid the tears streaming down his face
Our country is free because of the brave
He tries to think of the lives they've saved
But looking at this tangled steel
He can't wait to get out of this place

He dreams of his bride every single day
The babies have grown since he went away
Just need to stay strong, it won't be much longer

When it rains it pours
From the driest desert to the New England's shore
But its nothing the sun hasn't seen before
No its nothing the sun hasn't seen before, before, before
Just come home safe son, safe and warm
