Story Behind The Song
I looked at all the Christmas songs I have heard and never found one that put real emotions into Mary and Joseph. Everything is always wonderful and glorious, and I reasoned that this couple had to have had insecurities, so I wrote this song from their perspective as real people.
Song Description
Joseph and Mary feel insecure about their roles in being chosen for Jesus. Joseph is disturbed at himself for letting Mary have her baby in a stable, and Mary feels too young and lowly to have been chosen as the mother of God. In the end, after they reassure each other by saying because you're Joseph and because you're Mary, and expanding on the reasons why, the traditional Christmas story comes to life and they talk to the baby, ending with Because You're Jesus.
