The white-breasted sea eagle
is soaring high,
over bleached-white beaches
and mountainous seas.

Glides on the breeze,

over rugged cliffs of sandstone
that rise from the sea.

Here, where shell middens
are found. Prehistoric and wild!

Whales!
Humpback!

Thirty tonnes a-piece,
blue-black, migrating north.

Like missiles,
erupt vertically out of the ocean.

Breaching and plunging,
bubbles of air bursting
from blowholes.

Exuberant and wild!

leaping like larrikins
