personal experience, song was written at at a very low point in life - the only time this songwriter has ever experienced the real sensation that maybe life was no longer worth living... seeking some way out (a greener side - thru the open gate). Fortunately, the woman mentioned in the song, with "girl of my dreams-type stuff" turned out to be just that. Hope was revived... which is expressed in other songs throughout the CD.
