Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song last year in Nashville after a sleepless night when I was still on UK time having only recently arrived there from England. The phrase 'Last night I didn't sleep at all' then just seemed to turn itself into this song... It started out as a slow song throughout, sung by a female vocalist, but then Bryan Cumming, a record producer in Nashville, had the idea to re-record it with a more edgy, climactic feel to it and a male vocalist--this version.
Song Description
The singer is recounting the night before, when he didn't dream of his ex-lover, implying that he is getting over her--he didn't dream of all the broken promises she made. He sounds increasingly angry as he recounts more and more of the promises she broke. Then it turns out he didn't dream of her because he actually didn't sleep at all that night thinking about all the things that never turned out as he had been led to believe they would by her.
