The River Flows

Story Behind The Song

This song is actually a prelude to "Far Enough Away." Both songs reference my fear of what kind of world we will leave to our children.

Song Description

This song is in response to a movie I saw about man trying to colonize the moon. It upset me very much because so much time, energy, and finance will go to this space exploration while the more unfortunate people here on Earth will still be desolate. Man just cannot seem to accept his fate that we are part of nature, no matter how much we try to hide it. We need to disrobe ourselves of excessive passion about religion and the bloodshed associated with it.

Lyrics

The river flows to the sea.
All the stars shine from your eyes.
I cannot tell you any lies,
Nor my children the reasons why.
Earth is where I live today.
I don't want to fly too far away.
There's too much cosmic junk in space.
Nothing is safe from man's disgrace.

Chorus:
The more I know, the less I understand.
Senseless bloodshed, and all those leaders under lease.
Eldorado, you seem a million miles away.
Still I'm trying, the very best I can,
To believe in the civilized man.
But lately I get to wondering, hey, did Moses ever really cross the sea?

I ain't no Muslim, I ain't no Jew,
Don't want the Pope telling me what to do.
Don't want to worship any cow,
I'd rather burn this old body down.
Buddha, you've been sitting here so long,
Awfully silent through it all.
As another battlefield gets blown,
When will we ever get along?

[CHORUS]

I went walking on down the street.
I saw a crowd 10,000 deep,
Wasting away to see the freak,
And for the chance to wash his feet.
Along the way I stopped to think,
Is there any lower that we might sink?
How far we've come too fall so fast,
Been missing those messages from the past.

[CHORUS]
