Story Behind The Song

The rhythm came first and then the melody. The lyrics are a dramatisation of a situation I was in at one point in an early career.

Lyrics

Verse 1
I know it's been a while since we walked under the moon
I know how many times I've missed your smile
We've struggled and we've saved while I've worked so far away - so many miles

Verse 2
I wont forget that look when we finally realised
My going was the price we'd have to pay
We couldn't just pretend it wasn't going to end - so far away

Chorus
I'm going to take some time to think about
the love we have always known
Going to take some time
For the love I've left behind
Cos I'm so tired and so alone

I'm going take some time
Get a little peace of mind
Going to take some time before I roam again

Verse 3
The darkness of those hills is forever on my mind
The water rushing through after the rain
These thoughts when I'm alone make me dream of coming home - again

Chorus
I'm going to take some time to think about
the love we have always known
Going to take some time
For the love I've left behind
Cos I'm so tired and so alone

I'm going take some time
Get a little peace of mind
Going to take some time before I roam again

Bridge
The call of the valleys and the mountains above
The track leading up to our door
It's been calling me back
Time to strap on my pack and I'll be home, I'll be home once more

Chorus
I'm going to take some time to think about
the love we have always known
Going to take some time
For the love I've left behind
Cos I'm so tired and so alone

I'm going take some time
Get a little peace of mind
Going to take some time before I roam - may never leave again

Nice song and well executed. Good recording and well balanced.

Nice one Bob ! This took me exactly where I wanted it to take me .

Here's a song about a guy who has to leave home for work. You can really feel the emotions in the lyrics. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to survive...but the best part is coming home. I like the part about strapping on the pack, following the track, nice rhymes and word pictures. The vocals and harmonies are beautiful. The hook is catchy. Instrumentation and production completely appropriate for the song and pleasing to the ear. The ending was well thought out and wonderfully executed.

another nice and catchy tune my friend!

good song , nice harmonies nice folk country feel

I enjoyed this song a great deal. Really well performed and recorded. A really catchy refrain with a warm familiar feel and I don't mean that in a bad way. Nice stripped back phrases with well sung harmonies. Good arrangement, just what this song needs. Loved the underplayed vocal. Thanks.

I enjoyed the visuals in the verses and the chorus is catchy. I could see this song being played in a reflective scene, or a montage. I liked the tone of the singer's voice. The music just whisked me away, floating on that harmonica. I could sit by a river in the summer and listen to this again and again. Drum hits are great. Nice job.

Nice song, great story and how hard it is to be away from love ones...story captured the real handicap it is to take care of family far away...you expressed it well...

This was a nice listen. The instrumentation was nice. The stacked vocals/harmonies really made the difference. Nice hook. This definitely has potential for placement. I can hear it! Great job.

always enjoy fiddile...
lovely chords
i love this

Such a smooth and easy voice, so easy to listen to, true and smooth, This is an interesting song; it is autobiography as lyric. "This is what we did that time, remember and if you don't remember, I do, I remember every moment...................etc.
The song is so sweet and pleasant that you can hear it often and still enjoy the plummy voice.

Really nice traditional folk style, very comforting sound.

Good melody and lyrics, real nostalgia.

Well done.
