Story Behind The Song
Naturally a song written from my own perceptions of how it might feel under the circumstances but no real direct relationship to my own experience. I once saw a man in a bar on East 53rd street and 3rd Avenue in NYC and sort of made up this story to fit his appearance.
Song Description
Description of how if feels to be suddenly or not so suddenly aware that your love afair is over, she has left you and there's nothing you can do about it. The music is jaszz-pop attempting to re-create the late fourties NYC scene.

Lyrics
YOU CAN TELL WHEN A LOVE AFFAIR IS OVER
WHEN YOU?RE BACK WHERE YOU WERE AT THE START
YOU TRY TO HANG ON
BUT YOU KNOW IT?S ALL WRONG
AND YOU CAN?T GET HER OUT OF YOUR HEART
YOU CAN TELL WHEN SHE NO LONGER NEEDS YOU
WHEN YOUR HOPES AND YOUR DREAMS FALL APART
YOU WANT TO BE STRONG
THEN HER FACE COMES ALONG
AND YOU CAN?T GET HER OUT OF YOUR HEART
COULD IT BE THERE WAS SOME MISUNDERSTANDING?
IT WASN?T WHAT SHE REALLY MEANT TO SAY
IT WAS ALWAYS THE TWO OF YOU
NOW YOU DON?T KNOW WHAT TO DO
AND YOU JUST CAN?T GO ON THIS WAY
YOU CAN TELL THAT THE TIMES ARE A CHANGING
AND SHE JUST DOESN?T THINK YOU?RE VERY SMART
YOU WERE FEELING SECURE
NOW IT?S ENDED FOR SURE
AND YOU CAN?T GET HER OUT OF YOUR HEART
