As the Crow Flies

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this jazz piece as a modern orchestration of a traditional South Indian rhythmic composition. We found that the groove best suited to it is an Afro-Cuban drum feel. But it doesn't sound like a global hodgepodge; more like an exciting and unique jazz fusion piece.

Song Description

An exciting, upbeat piece that merges jazz with elements of Afro-Cuban and Indian music. It is performed by a soaring soprano sax, backed by piano, bass and drums. After a brief intro by the trio, the sax plays the melody. Then the piano solos, followed by the sax, before the melody is played again to end the piece.
