I Was Married To Your Sister

Story Behind The Song

I was driving in my Dodge Ram 4x4, listening to Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever" then changed over to Toby Keith's "How Do You Like Me Now". I decided their needed to be a mix of these two artists. I stopped at a red light pondering this, and got a beat, then a riff, then the lyrics started coming very quickly. I pulled over and wrote down the words and recorded the tune on my phone. The words are very therapeutic being inspired by a terrible, past relationship.

Lyrics

The devil showed up in my room last night he'd just crawled out of his hole
He shrieked and he cussed as he pointed at me and said I'm after your soul
As I rolled over to go back to sleep he screamed, aren't terrified mister
I just laughed and said devil I ain't scared of you, I was married to your sister.

I was married to your sister, I spent a lifetime dealing with it
Ain't nothing you can do to shake my nerves
Cause they're already spent
If I were in your shoes I'd get my tail out of here
And just be happy you missed her
Cause I understand the term "Hell to pay"
I was married to your sister.

The devil pulled up a chair to the foot of my bed, he said my heads really reeling
I've no right to ask, but can I sit for a while, I need to talk about my feelings
It's been quite a while since I thought about her, now it's making me blue
I know how you felt when you were married to her, cause I'm afraid of her too

I said, I was married to your sister, I spent a lifetime dealing with it
Ain't nothing you can do to shake my nerves
Cause they're already spent
If I were in your shoes I'd get my tail out of here
And just be happy you missed her
I understand the term "Hell to pay" man
I was married to your sister.
I was married to your sister, I spent a lifetime dealing with it
Ain't nothing you can do to shake my nerves
Cause they're already spent
If I was in your shoes I'd get my tail out of here
And just be happy you missed her
Cause I understand the term "Hell to pay"
I was married to your sister.

Yeah I understand the term "Hell to pay" devil
I was married to your sister.
