Song Description

Hope is never lost if one can learn from prior mistakes. This is a story about a man who has learned from his mistakes and is determined to make the best out of his prior bad luck.

Story Behind the Song

This song is autobiographical. I have led a life of career changes, poor health for my family and struggles for money. At one time I had nine dollars left in my checking account. I was recently married and had just bought a house.

Lyrics

Stumbling Blocks
Words and music by Tony Ashur
Copyright 2002

REFRAIN:
I?m building a house made of stumbling blocks.
The walls will be secure, as solid as rocks.
My mistakes are many, my lessons I?ve learned,
So I can build my house made of stumbling blocks.

1.Each day can be a challenge, I've not always done what's right.
I've learned to make some changes, and I've seen the light.
Growth and change bring you wisdom, they're the mortar I use,
To build my house made of stumbling blocks.
REFRAIN

2.I've been blessed with an angel who helps me each day.
Her love and understanding have shown me the way.
She saw through my rough spots when she said, "I do."
Through thick and through thin she still sais, "I love you."
REFRAIN
BRIDGE:
I'll build the first floor with patience.
The second with understanding.
I'll side the house with happy memories.
To top it off, the roof will be love.
