Story Behind The Song
I started writing this song in 1985, after Live Aid, for Bono and U2. I've treasured the song for all these years and improved it as I got older. But basically it didn't change at all. The ocean, although polluted, and the hungry African children, they are still the same. My dream is that one day U2 will play my song. There's not necessarily an ocean between The Netherlands and Africa, but there's an ocean between Ireland and almost any other country in the world. Therefore this song has to be played by an Irish or a British band! I would very much like to develop as a songwriter.
My apologies for my voice, as I am singing this song in the Christian/Faith category! I have a huge tumor in the hollow spaces of my head and this affects my singing! I have gone through a lot of medical treatments, operations, radiotherapy and was prescribed medicines that damaged my lungs, bones etc. With the help of a speech therapist, I partially got my voice back and now I make the best of it!

Lyrics
A Million Tears
INTRO / VERSE 1
Tonight I'll try to say a prayer
for Africa's own children
As we live here and you live there
One world together
one to share
CHORUS
Between us is flowing an ocean
blue so blue
filled with a million tears
the whole way through
If I could change the world, there's so
much I would do
Tonight I'll remember to say
a prayer for you
VERSE 2
Where you were born there's now despair
Clothes ragged and torn is what you wear
Disease and hunger you'll endure
cause there is hope, but
still no cure
VERSE 3
Your parents wish that you'll survive
so you might get a better life
But poorness always breaks the rule
and children work, instead
of school
CHORUS
Between us is flowing an ocean
blue so blue
filled with a million tears
the whole way through
If I could change the world, there's so
much I would do
Tonight I'll remember to say
a prayer for you
INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE
VERSE 4
When night falls you'll be full of fear
the sound of boots is all you hear
You'll sleep under the bare moonlight
afraid for soldiers
in the night
VERSE 5
There, where the sun will never sleep
I hear the mothers, fathers weep
For millions of their girls and boys
no food, no water
homes or toys
CHORUS
Between us is flowing an ocean
blue so blue
filled with a million tears
the whole way through
If we would change the world, there's so
much we could do
Tonight I'll remember to say
a prayer for you
REPEAT CHORUS 2X
Between us is flowing an ocean
blue so blue
filled with a million tears
the whole way through
If we would change the world, there's so
much we could do
Tonight I'll remember to say
a prayer for you
Forever is flowing an ocean
blue so blue
filled with a million tears
the whole way through
We all can change this world, there's so
much we can do...
Tonight I'll remember to say
a prayer for you
