The Ice Cave

Story Behind The Song

Cave lions used to roam the Derbyshire Peak District landscape in the Ice Age. This music recreates the feel of the lion's lair inside the cave. The uneasiness of the lion can be felt as she is always on the look out for danger.

Song Description

The music has an ethereal solo violin melody which depicts the cave lion moving around the landscape. The sounds in the background are recorded in a Derbyshire cave and include dripping water and the wind and rain outside. The violin part was recorded actually in a cave lion's lair. Foxhole Cave, on the side of High Wheeldon Hill, is where cave lion bones have been found.
