It Was Our Time

Story Behind The Song

I grew up in a small city. As a kid you don't realize just how big the world is until you go out there. In the end, no matter where you go, your roots and the things you learned that shaped you, lead you back to your childhood. This song is bitter sweet for me. I had to think back and some of my growing up was a little rough coming from a family with 7 kids. In the end, it still comes back to how you live your life. What dreams did you have when you were young, and what have you done about it? Mine was to be a performer. It took me years to build the confidence to go back to it but I've found that even later in life, the dream can still become a reality.

Skipping out of school that day in June
We were so alive
Lying in the grass all afternoon
Our spirits high
We walked around our sleepy little town
And wondered why, we'd ever want to leave

Chorus:
It was our time, we were young
We didn't have that much to lose
It was our time, we were young
Everything to look forward to

We had to have it all and grew into
Our own desires
Setting out to blaze a trail anew
Our passions higher
We pulled out from our sleepy little town
Never looking back
But it never goes away

Chorus
It was our time, we were young
Leaving all the things we knew
It was our time, we were young
And nothing that we couldn't do

Bridge
Time moves fast
Dreams can fade away
Have you fallen, from your path?
Reach back for what you need

I look at all our fading photographs
Of days gone by
Some bitter-sweet memories still consume
I laugh and cry
I drive around that sleepy little town
And wonder why
We'd ever want to leave

Chorus
It was our time, we were young
We didn't have that much to lose
It was out time, we were young
And nothing that we couldn't do
It was our time, we were young
Remember all the things we knew
It is our time, we are still young
Don't let it slip away from you!
