We're Like Two

Song Description

The endless cliches readily available in much of contemporary music, such as, "we are like one", "our hearts beat as one", "we were meant to be", are droll and trite offering very little in perspective about the nature of relationships. This song was inspired to articulate, without triteness, why two people should not be together with a phrase that was an antithesis to the common cliche. Hence, "We're Like Two." This is expanded in the chorus which uses three similies to express why the couple should not be together, such as, "We are like to plays looking for one stage." Intrestingly, the verse consists fully of ninths, which are uncommon in this manner, and in contiguity, in Pop/Rock. The harmonic trill which occurs at the beginning and end is often found to be sonically intersting.

Lyrics

Katie stands alone tonight, her head is tired and confused.
All her thoughts don't look too bright, all this talk of being used.
All I do is sit and stare at these walls around my heart.
It's when I gasp for air do I know this much is true . . .

It gets to me every time,
that girl in the corner starts screaming,
What are you here for?
And I say:
Listen to me now!

Chorus
We're like two trains, that are heading different ways.
We're like two waves, nearly an ocean away.
We're like two plays, that are looking for one stage.
And I pray that I never feel this way again.

Katie takes it much too hard,
you know these things are really tough.
But I let it go too far, dodging fate and feigning love.
All I want is everything and I'll hold tight until I'm blue.
If she really thought like me,
then she'd know this much is true . .

The door slams hard in my way, I see her there crying,
Tell me why is this way?
And I say:
Listen to me now!

Chorus
We're like two trains, that are heading different ways.
We're like two waves, nearly an ocean away.
We're like two plays, that are looking for one stage.
And I pray that I never feel this way again.
