Story Behind The Song
I dated Maureen for two years and this was the last song that I wrote for her. It was a great relationship and we talked about marriage but in the end, it didn't work out. To this day, I've never felt the happiness that I had felt with her. Anyone who's been in love knows the feeling and it can hardly be described. I did my best to throw those emotions into a sweet love song.
Song Description
The title alone melts most girls' hearts. This is a true story about a boy (myself) and his girlfriend (Maureen, whose name is in the last verse). All he wanted to do was sit with her on the porch, listening to the crickets until the day they (he) died.

Lyrics
You're lovely tonight
Even with your makeup wearing off
It's dripping on my toes and
Making my feet beautiful
I wish you'd come over and
Sit with me on the patio
The crickets are chirping
Love songs at each other
And I want to listen with you
Sometimes when I sit with
You like this on our deck swing
I think of the things we could
Do and what we've done already
Then I realize
We couldn't be happier
Than we are right now
In the middle of the woods
Treeless, I will hold you like I should
'Cause you're mine
And I'm the midnight romancer
And I'm yours
And I'll sit with you until somebody comes
Guys, get a good wife,
You'll be happy
Girls, if you have a good husband, you're a
Liar
'Cause good girls come and
Good guys go, but the
Ones who stay are the ones
To hold onto
And I got one
Yeah, I got mine
She stays, we raise
Clocks that don't tell time
'Cause when you're old, you
Don't need no one to call you up, take you out,
Write you letters about how in love you are,
'Cause it's in the words, it's in the verses
That you write with your inkless pen
Which still bleeds, but as long as
You have each other, you will know how to follow your heart
Maureen, I wrote this
Song with you in mind
All I want to do
The day I die
Is lie with you in my bed
And hear about your day
Plant a kiss on your forehead
Then gently pass away
