Story Behind The Song
This is a great opening line "I can't plant pansies and daises in your mind".
I love the line "Souls on fire never bleed".
I tried to think of how to express that the person has fear and hatred in them like bombs ready to explode. So I wrote "You harbor fireballs of fear and hate".
How to describe this fog the person is in and not paying attention to me? I used "blurred blindness".
"Your past demons never seem to heal" is pretty much a universal line that applies for many.
"Somewhere in the distance I've heard..." has two meanings. It means that I remember when you used to whisper sweet loving words to me and it means that I have heard or imagine a distant person whispering sweet words or it means that I remember such sweet words from another lover in the past.
I used the classic, horrible image of the Zeppelin burning, which we all have burned into our psyche. "Oh, the humanity."
I love the line "Your smiles, falling stars into the night, burning out before 'feeling' the light." Meaning the rare smiles are quickly gone like shooting stars. Never feeling the positive, which is the light.
"I've got your back in this fight". Meaning, I'm right here, I love you and I am trying as hard as I can for you.
I like the line, "I feel you flinch in the dark." We know that means she is having nightmares.
I rhymed "hatred ever-churning", which apply describes the situation, with "Zeppelin ever burning".
A person's "demons" seem "all so real", standing "strong as steel" apply describes what goes on inside of so many people and followed by its "greater than I am". And the whole message of the song is that I can't get through to you and I am right hear trying as hard as I can, even at my own expense.
And the sharp knife and the bullets in the heart describe how harsh, cruel, angry, and defensive the person can be as they strike out at you.
I am open to suggestions for revisions.

Zeppelin Forever Burning
© 2017 Michael Hanson Cantwell
Summation: In love with a tortured soul
I can't plant pansies and daises in your mind
There's a burning there that's so damn unkind
You can't care what another person needs
Souls on fire never bleed
You harbor fireballs of fear and hate
From evils that I...I did not make
I want to shout and wave my arms in your mind
To cut through all your blurred blindness
To feel loved by you one more time
Your past demons never seem to heal
In your mind, they're all so real
Standing before you, strong as steel
Chorus:
Somewhere in the distance I've heard
A happy soul whispering love's sweet words
Not anger, not sadness, not hatred ever-churning
You're the zeppelin forever burning x 2
(Backup singers: A soul on fire)
How can this simple soul of a man
Stay lost in another's burning plans
Your fires burn greater than I am
Your smiles, falling stars into the night
Burning out before feeling the light
I've got your back in this fight
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
Your knife's edge is really sharp
Some of your bullets hit me in my heart
Sleeping, I feel you flinch in the dark
There never seems a fresh new start
Repeat Chorus
