Story Behind The Song

In designing my hospitality house, I wanted to give those who visit us modern amenities. But, the poetry of need in modern America also provided a tension of what good can arise in one's limitations, and the common graces of life. We are not wealthy, so I ended up being extremely creative in building my dream home on seconds from Habitat for Humanity, giving me a lot of time to reflect on wealth and poverty and finding my own place in the mix.

Song Description

Home Sweet Home, or Islet, is a modern tango, fast paced, mysterious and humorous. It is a modern prayer mixing the spiritual values of our society and the obvious needs around us with our own desires for comfort, and finally to be content with the basic provisions.

Lyrics

A bedroom is a place to sleep,
a simple place to simply be.
What it needs is peace and quiet
and a little nook to start a riot,
and just a bit of islet.

A kitchen is a place to bake,
a fridge to keep, a stove to make
a little sauce, or spicy diet,
and an eating nook in which to try it.
Water, not much grit.

Lord! Give us our daily bread so we won't steal or shame the way you've led,
now I lay me down to sleep and pray the Lord my little soul to keep.

A home is one's safe harbor, yeah,
with love and jokes and chores to bear.
A place to clear your thoughts with cheer, to
physically self-guard it, dear
and draw between the islet.

Bridge: For food in a world where many lay in hunger!
For friends in a world where many live alone,
for faith in a world where many hide in fear, oh!
We give you thanks, oh Lord, and we share, share, share, share, share...
