You're My Angel

Story Behind The Song

How does one survive the death of a child? We just do - somehow we just do. Sometimes I would feel her presence and catch a glimpse of her out of the corner of my eye. She seemed to linger around the community mailboxes (even Sean saw/felt her presence there and he never even knew what she looked like!). One year, as the anniversary of her "angel day" approached, I felt compelled to capture some of the thoughts I've had about her over the years. As I was writing, I called my daughter, Emily, and asked her permission to include the last line "My darling angel, my dearest friend." I didn't want Emily to feel she took second place (because she never did) but the line seemed to fit the sentiment and, of course, Emily agreed. This song is for Rosie, my guardian angel.

Lyrics

You're My Angel

V1: No matter how many years go by or how many tears I cry
Nothing's gonna bring you back to me
I know it in my mind and I feel it in my heart
Some days it hits me more intensely
Then there are times I feel you lingering close by
Like a soft breeze caressing my face
I catch a fleeting glimpse of you from the corner of my eye
You're watching over me and I think I know why

Cho: You're my angel, you're my friend
You walk beside me and hold my hand
You stay with me so I'm not alone
You're my angel - you're my home

Bridge: I don't claim to understand this game called life
Or why some have to leave and some can stay
But just like I can't let you go, you can't let go of me
We're kind of funny that way

V2: People I meet now don't even know you existed
'Cause for them you never did and you never will
I really can't blame them, it's hard to explain when
They never met you and they don't get that

Cho:

Reprise: I miss your smile, I miss your touch
Oh I miss you so much
Will I ever see you again
My darling angel, my dearest friend
