The Other Woman

Story Behind The Song

Someone I know told me how upset a friend of his was because she had just found out she was "the other woman." That started me thinking about the logistics of that kind of relationship and what it would look like to honestly confront that scenario at its inception. We are faced with moral dilemmas throughout our lives and the question is: Can we withstand the temptation we verbally committed to avoid when faced with the real opportunity to have what we selfishly want? Well, this song endeavors to say up front that it isn't worth pursuing desire if it means causing harm to the innocent. In a rare move, my producer, Bill Bentley, determined the best way to present this song was to leave it alone, with me doing my solo acoustic thing.

Lyrics

V1: I don't want to be the other woman in your life
I deserve your full attention - well, I guess so does your wife
So far we've done nothing to apologize for
But you've shown me your attention and I'm starting to want more

Cho: I'm not the other woman
I'm the only woman any man of mine could ever want or need
I'd rather be a very lonely woman
Than make another cry because of me

V2: The road we're on could lead to misery or ecstasy
We're taking baby steps - been stepping carefully
Before we get any closer remember why you chose her
And made a home with her and your darling family

Cho:

Bridge: Don't give it a second thought if I'm not the first thought on your mind
No need for conversation - let's put this flirtation behind us
The mere fact that you're a man and I'm a woman needn't make us a cliche
We can still be soul-mates but in a strictly platonic way

V3: There's no harm or foul if we walk away now
We can still be friends who's don't depend on any vow
No one needs to know how close we came to being a pair
It can be our little secret, one we never, ever share

Cho:
