In the End

Story Behind The Song

Another break-up-inspired song. He was kinda mean. But I chose to see the good and hung in there even when those who cared for me were counseling me to leave. Well, of course, "in the end" I did leave - they were right. The last verse spells out my philosophy of life in a nutshell. This song was originally produced by Bill McKinney, a Detroit-area producer and musician who, with Pat Schrein, awesome drummer and singer, helped make the song come alive. Later, Bill Bentley suggested adding some parts to the original recording and the combination is what you now hear.

Lyrics

IN THE END
Words & Music by Jill Detroit

And in the end, I hope you'll see
I was your friend, even when no one else would be
I took my soul and laid it bare
Inviting you to come and lay your troubles there.

Chorus:
There will be those who criticize
I don't pay them heed
They just don't see you through my eyes
They don't know what I need
So let them say now what they will
Let them speculate
I am the one who lives with
All the choices that I make

So hear me out and hear me well
There is no doubt I have a great story to tell
Of winding paths and stormy seas
Of joy and laughter, pain and sorrow, all of these.

Chorus:

And in the end, it comes to this
A loyal friend, a baby's smile, a lover's kiss
The song that I was born to sing
A sensual, eventual awakening.

Chorus:
