Coming Down to Georgia (Unplugged)

Story Behind The Song

Not really sure. My Dad passed away in May of 2005 and I had part of the chorus rolling around in my head as I travelled back to the US after attending the funeral in the UK. The song isn't really about my dad or his passing - it's obviously a love song

Verse 1
Up ahead in the distanceThunder rolls through the sky
Over miles and miles of bleak empty hills
Looking like the emptiness of my life
My mind drifts back to warm summer days
Passionate bodies entwined
We were full of laughter, love, hope and dreams
Back when you were mine

Build 1
But all that seems such a long time ago
As IÂ?m driving here through the rain
But itÂ?s the one spark of passion
That one ray of hope
That finds me on this road again

Chorus
Coming down to Georgia
On this stormy night
Watching lightning dance across the sky, yeah
ItÂ?s such a beautiful sight
IÂ?m searching for redemption baby
IÂ?ve got nothing more to lose
IÂ?m in need of forgiveness baby
Forgiveness from you
Heal my broken soul anew

Verse 2
I remember the time we first traveled this road
So young, and so wild and free
Now those places haunt me, memories taunt me
And they just wonÂ?t let me be
So I donÂ?t stay in one place too long
Just keep on traveling through
IÂ?ve been a high plains drifter,
a hobo, a grifter
Unrecognizable to you

Build 2
I lost you when I lost all control
Addiction is a terrible thing
But I feel the weight lifting from my shoulders
As I travel down this road again

Repeat Chorus

Verse 3
As I kneel by your grave I can picture your face
ItÂ?s been 20 years I know
I imagine you forgive me, tears in your eyes
You say come on boy itÂ?s time to go

Repeat Chorus
