Song Description

Southern, Funky, rock song about a beautiful worldly Southern woman in Baton Rouge.

Story Behind the Song

I met Howard Wand through an AOL Songwriter's Group and fell in love with these descriptive lyrics about a Southern Belle who is a beautiful, powerful woman.

Lyrics

"THE QUEEN OF BATON ROUGE"

Verse 1.
She wore a bracelet on her ankle and a flower in her hair.
A satin gown with diamonds said, "Come catch me if you dare".
A smile to bring a heartache to anyone she knew.
An angel's look, the devil took, to hold and capture you.

Chorus 1
She was satin, silk with skin like milk,
and a walk to stop a crowd.
Shoulders bare, reddish hair,
and lipstick way too loud.

She was pretty as a picture,
A dream that might come true.
She was a gal from Mississippi,
But the Queen of Baton Rouge.

Verse 2.
She could dance a thousand love songs or a tango full of fire.
A wit of gold, the men were told, a tongue that would not tire.
She was softness at its peak of life like a petal to a flower.
A passion for the joys of life attached to men of power.

Chorus 2
She had the wisdom of the ancient ones and a hand to calm a storm.
A gift for touch and so much more to make your heart feel warm.
She was pretty as a picture,
A dream that might come true.
She was a gal from Mississippi,
But the Queen of Baton Rouge.

Verse 3
She had the eyes that sparkled brightly like the coal that miners dug.
A whisper from her tender lips was like my mama's hug.
When she walked into to a ballroom silence filled the air.
Women stopped to whisper. Men would stop and stare.

Chorus 3
She was so much more than understanding Patient if she must
Different than the other ones. A woman you could trust.
She was pretty as a picture,
A dream that might come true.
She was a gal from Mississippi,
But the Queen of Baton Rouge.

She's the Queen of Baton Rouge.
She's the Queen of Baton Rouge.
