Lyrics
On September 11, 2001 our house shook when the Pentagon was hit, and our skies filled with acrid smoke for days. In the months and years after, many of the survivors both in DC and New York had their personal foundations shaken as well. This is their story.
When the World Lost Her Innocence
When the world lost her Innocence, September sky so blue
Buildings fell and hearts were crushed
You wondered what you should do.
Heroes died but your life was spared
It was a message from above
That life?s too short for unhappiness
With a wife you no longer loved.
When the world lost her innocence
You had a rich excuse
You wanted more, you?d tried before
You told me it was no use.
Thousands lost their loves that day, who never had a choice
But you broke your vows of your own free will
And never heard my voice.
Tragedy, Irony, perfect partners unlike you and me
Tragedy, Irony, will you find a new wife and
Struggle with reality and leave her, like you left me?
When the world lost her innocence, not all the victims are known
A million more lost their way that day, whose names are not carved in stone.
No tributes paid, there?ll be no wreaths laid, for all the dreams that died
When survivor?s guilt ruined the lives they built
The day our country cried.
It was a day of loss, of immeasurable cost.
It?s the day I lost you too.
