No American Dream

Story Behind The Song

We've watched the collapse of the middle-class, and scores of university students graduate with mountains of debt and no good jobs. We wrote this song to capture our own anger and the mood of Americans who are buried in debt, have lost jobs, homes, hope and belief in the American Dream. It's a daydream.

Lyrics

No American Dream
Copyright Tom & Mary Erangey November 2011

This ain't no American dream, This ain't no American dream
It's a daydream, It's a daydream, It's a daydream

In my waking hours I walk around...in a daydream
Visions in my head of life...and how it's supposed to be
But it's not like that at all
No it's altogether wrong
No it's not like that at all
It's altogether wrong

Pre-Chorus:
Can't find a job
Can't pay the rent
Gotta stop my car
Being repossessed

CHORUS:
It's a daydream, It's a daydream, It's a daydream
This ain't no American dream, This ain't no American dream

When asleep I'm at peace...can't be beat I'm a winner
Anchors raised, engines steam, rule the seas...no forgiving
But it's not like that at all
It's altogether wrong
No it's not like that at all
It's altogether wrong

Pre-Chorus:
I played by the rules
I did my best
I went to school
Now I'm buried in debt

CHORUS:
It's a daydream, It's a daydream, It's a daydream
This ain't no American dream, This ain't no American dream

BRIDGE/Pre-Chorus:
Can't find a job
Can't pay the rent
I did my best
Now I'm buried in debt

CHORUS:
It's a daydream, It's a daydream
This ain't no American dream, This ain't no American dream
[Repeat 3 times]
It's a daydream

Cool song! Great performances and sounds! My only constructive criticism would be that it could use a little more contrast - maybe a little lighter and more open in the verses so that the chorusses sound bigger. Just a first impression. Great work!

very original, full sound great m/f vocals catchy

Tom and Mary take their journey through the wringer and create a searing indictment of the American Dream - turns out its a nightmare we can sing along to.

One of the freshest, most exciting bands I've heard in years!
