On a Sunday Mornin

Story Behind The Song

This is partly a true story. I used to work with adults with severe mental illness and I was having a tough time and there was one of our clients huddles on the ground- just like the song- and I was wondering if I should say anything since he seemed so caught up in his own thoughts. I want up to him and said hi and asked how he was doing and he said exactly what is in this song and my reaction was the same as the song. Also the part of church is very true.

Lyrics

On a Sunday mornin
And feel in pretty blue
My husband just left me
and my little girl was two

Went to church
that morning and
heard the choir sing
Jesus is beside me
and what comfort He brings
Felt as if they singing to me

Yet still felt
an ache in my heart
How could;d Jesus comfort me

The pastor spoke
of Jesus still alive today
And when we help[ the poor
Jesus will show us the way

How to look beyond
our hearts and fears
and see Jesus despite our tears

As I walked home
I thought of the service
and wheat great love Jesus gives us
Yet my heart still broken
and wondering is Jesus
really in my life

There was a man
who appeared to be alone
Was huddled on the ground
andvhis blanket was his home

\My heart seemed to open
My eyes able to see
Yet my fear of him told me

You don't know if he=ll hurt you
You don't know what he'll do
Leave him alone
You have your
own troubles too

But I remembered the
pastor saying Jesus
is in the poor

How could I pass
him by and at least
not give it a try

Didn't think I'd get any response
but- knelt down to him
and said, hi my name is Cindy

For a couple of moments
there was no reply
I started to get up
and then he replied

His eyes wide open
and a smile so wide
Someone had noticed him!
And with a tear in his eye said

Jesus loves you Cindy
You're gonna be alriufght
Then he went back to his thoughts but smiling with his head held high

I couldn't believe it
Was this true!
Jesus coming to me
out of the blue!

In his eyes I saw
such warmth and love
As if he knew me
A sign from above

On a Sunday morning
I hear Jesus say
that He love me
and he'll show me the way
