More Than Meets The Eye

Story Behind The Song

After a very painful breakup in 1997 I went through a second protracted period of intense existential angst. Writing this song was very helpful in the taming of those fears. This was recorded in my home studio in 2000.

Lyrics

More Than Meets The Eye - C. Thomas
6/7/99

It didn?t have to be complicated
Disturbing thoughts have crept into my mind
Shadow of doubt that was instigated
By answers we may never learn in time

And I long for the arrogance of youth
A time I believed what I thought was the truth
But I?ve come to find it was all left behind
And we can?t start again

Do you believe in destiny?
Do you have faith in what you see?
Do you believe in ?more than meets the eye??

Late at night I lie unsleeping
A lack of faith conspires to keep me blind
Is there a plan, a deeper meaning
for each of us beyond the daily grind?

And we?re all asking ?what does it mean??
Wheels within wheels, or a carbon machine?
Trapped in this place, have we fallen from grace?
Will they welcome us in?

Chorus

I guess we?re all hoping to find
a glimpse of the truth that would give peace of mind
Is the end just a door, will there be something more?
Well, I?ll be here ?till then...

Chorus
