Story Behind The Song
My 2 year old son Hayden was a climber -? the chorus came outta me the umpteenth time I had to pull him off the kitchen cabinets. The fun part was figuring out how to turn that bouncy chorus into a love song. But since these days I wrestle the riddle myself of how much to stay safety-minded for my children vs how much to let them fly to the new heights they long for, the contradictions between the choruses and verses came easily. I deal with those same contradictions every day, and I do hope love and faith always win out.
Song Description
I love how this song shows a man climbing to love, hearing his mother's well-meaning admonishment throughout (don't we all keep our parent's voices in our head?) and, with a combination of faith and drive, climbing and loving just the same. It's a testament to the human spirit and to the human capacity to love. Mom loves as she can, the man looks for love higher and keeps climbing, and the ending wraps it all up in love for everyone.
This song would be good for a very strong and sassy female artist as well...

Lyrics
VERSE
When I was two my momma knew
I liked it high, I loved the view.
I?d be climbing chairs and such
to sit beside her Sunday cups.
My poor momma?d sigh...
CHORUS
Get on down on that ground, son (girl),
get on down on that ground.
Whatcha? you doin? way up there?
You might fall! Guess you don?t care.
Just get on down on that ground, son (girl),
get on down on that ground.
Whatcha? you doin? way up there?
Get on down on that ground.
DBL VERSE
I?ve climbed mountains, walls and rocks,
company ladders too.
I like it high as I can go ?
that?s how I spotted you...
But you seemed too high to reach for,
you seemed to walk on air
and I could hear my momma?s voice
?Son (Girl), whatcha? you doin? there??
CHORUS
Get on down on that ground, son (girl),
get on down on that ground.
Whatcha? you doin? way up there?
You might fall! Guess you don?t care.
Just get on down on that ground, son (girl),
get on down on that ground.
Whatcha? you doin? way up there?
Get on down on that ground.
CHORUS REPEAT
BRIDGE
Can?t help myself, still love the view
and I?m still climbin? up to you
and I?ll climb right into the sky
to see the heaven in your eyes.
CHORUS
Get on down on that ground, son (girl),
get on down on that ground.
Whatcha? you doin? way up there?
You might fall! Guess you don?t care.
Just get on down on that ground, son (girl),
get on down on that ground.
Whatcha? you doin? way up there?
Get on down on that ground.
TAG
Mom, don?t worry ?bout your son (me none).
I?m grounded now and she?s (he?s) the one.
I?ve finally fallen, I don?t care.
It?s higher ground because she?s (he?s) there...
